Dawn at Dawn
A peaceful morning with the Dawn redwood trees at Bailey Arboretum. The sun was rising and lighting up the tree tops...creating a wonderful glow of light.

Asymmetrical Symmetry
This mini garden was a surprise ending to one of the fun walks at Wave Hill. There are so many nooks and crannies at Wave Hill...so many paths to follow and so many sights to see.
They say a container garden should have a thriller (something tall and interesting), a filler (something to fill in around the base) and a spiller (something to hang over the edge of the pot). This has all three in spades, so-to-speak. The lovely balance of symmetry and asymmetry literally stopped me in my tracks. It seems so peaceful, doesn't it?

Fall Candy
This year I love the colors in particular. The different combinations of deep pink and lime greens sparkle. Of course rain helps too. It almost looks like candy, don't you think?

Time
Kids grow up so fast, don't they? One minute, they are playing along side you...
And the next minute, they are all grown up...
leaving wisps of a childhood behind.

A New Pet?
Can you even stand how beautiful this beluga whale is? Look at his eye and his cute forehead! There is such a sweetness about him.
I want one...

Determined
This is a portrait of a gelada baboon from Ethiopia. He kept averting his eyes as his buddy groomed him. And then, finally, he looked at me. He's amazing. I love the way the light was dusting his face. His eyes are piercing, and his expression seems so determined.

Flight in White
A Great Egret. I don't know what it is about photographing flying birds...much less one this beautiful. All I can say is that by freezing them in mid-flight, you can actually see what they are doing and just how amazing they are.
I mean, really, how do they do this?

The Chase
I have never met a dog that can run like this. Seriously, you literally can't see him when he pours on the speed. His favorite thing is to be the Chasee! I don't think the Chaser dogs can see him either because apparently they never "get" him!
And while I have the classic shot of him running toward the camera, I prefer this one showing him doing his favorite thing. Thanks Ollie. You are a true sportsman!
PS He's a cavalier spaniel and beagle mix!!

Amazing Animals Video by BBC
This video from the BBC will give you chills!! Absolutely incredible videography of animals doing their thing...and of course, I love Louis Armstrong's song, "What a Wonderful World". It's totally worth taking the two minutes to watch.

Den of Light
Here's a series from the project I mentioned in my blog post, You Au Naturel.
My goal is to capture different facets of a person's personality in a purely natural way, meaning using natural light to showcase spontaneous gestures and expressions. Imagine yourself In your favorite clothes, doing your favorite things...or just being. In your "natural habitat" or not.
You in the raw, although not naked (!), exposed by beautiful light. I hit the jackpot by shooting in my den for this session. My patio outside the almost-floor-to celing windows was still covered in snow. It meant that literally we were shooting with a huge softbox of natural light that lit Nikki in extremely soft, diffused light.
Many thanks to Nikki. You are beautiful inside and out. And such fun!! A little Brazilian music and we were off to the races!

Gotcha!! FINALLY!!!
Well, it has taken all winter, but I finally got more than a glimpse of my cardinal. He is incredibly timid. Every time I walk in a room or go outside, he flies away!! I had to hide behind Daisy's dog bed for this shot. Of course, this is not the image I had envisioned, but beggars can't be choosers...as they say...and trust me, I have been begging!

One of My Favorite Neighbors
I was literally in the middle of a portrait session the other day, and my neighbor showed up for a peek. He usually walks right across my patio, a few feet from the house. I only had time to swivel around...no time to change my lens, but I shot him anyway. He has been visiting a lot lately. I think he is really hungry. I hope he is okay. This winter has been so harsh...

My Sweet Squirrel
![]() |
My sweet squirrel is back. Remember him from Death-Defying FEET? Hopefully he's getting a boost of vitamin C from eating the rose hips from my rosebush pictured in Tudie's Roses. |
![]() |
He is perched on a snow-covered boxwood bush. Lucky for him the snow is frozen solid. It's the perfect thing for reaching snacks. You have to admire his gymnastic abilities... |

...and his profile. |

I know squirrels have a bad reputation, but you have to admit. He is a cutie pie! And he loves to stare into my lens! |

Snow, Snow, Glorious Snow!!

I am definitely not a fan of the "polar vortex" we have been experiencing, but the snow this winter is stunning. You must get out there... |
